Stock Market Today: Nasdaq Drops, Oil Prices Fall After U.S.-Iran Progress – Eurasia Business News

The S&P 500 fell 0.3%, while the Nasdaq dropped 1.1%. Alphabet experienced a 5.5% decline. Progress in U.S.-Iran talks affected oil, causing prices to drop significantly.

The benchmark S&P 500 (SP500) was last -0.3%, while the Nasdaq Composite (COMP:IND) traded -1.1%, and the blue-chip Dow (DJI) was +0.3%.
An even bigger Nasdaq component, Alphabet, is facing its worst day in more than a year, down about 7% amid concerns about its artificial-intelligence business. The stock fell as much as 7.2%, the most intraday since February, after Google DeepMind Vice President John Jumper said over the weekend he was leaving for Anthropic. Last week, one of Google’s most prominent researchers, Noam Shazeer, announced he was leaving for OpenAI.
Treasury yields were higher, with the 10-year Treasury yield (US10Y) 5 basis points higher at 4.51%, while the 2-year Treasury yield (US2Y) rose 4 basis points to 4.23%.
The reported U.S.-Iran framework appears to be a provisional 60-day deal tied to nuclear talks and restoring Strait of Hormuz shipping.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance reported progress in talks with Iran in Switzerland. The United States announced the unfreezing of certain assets and a first lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil until August 21
Oil prices fell as those talks advanced. Brent was quoted around $77.88 in market data, while WTI was around $73.81 today.

The session was volatile: prices had spiked above $82 intraday before falling back as the market reassessed the odds of supply disruption. That kind of swing usually means traders are still pricing geopolitical headlines very aggressively.
Gold and silver prices
New York spot prices were about $4,185 per troy ounce for gold and $64.69 per troy ounce for silver.

SpaceX Gains a $ 6 billion deal
SpaceX has reportedly struck a multibillion-dollar compute lease with Reflection AI, an open-source AI startup, for access to Nvidia GB300 capacity at SpaceX’s Colossus 2 data center near Memphis. The deal is described as potentially worth about $6.3 billion through 2029, with monthly payments of $150 million starting July 1, and either side able to exit after the first three months with 90 days’ notice.
Tributes to Alan Greenspan have been pouring in from across government, finance, and the Fed, with many emphasizing his long tenure, policy influence, and lasting impact on markets. The U.S. Federal Reserve said Greenspan’s contributions to monetary policy and economic thought left a lasting mark on the institution, economics, and the country.
Brian Moynihan of Bank of America said Greenspan helped steer the economy through “moments of profound complexity” and left an enduring imprint on policy and markets.
