DANVILLE, Ky. — Local children spent part of their summer learning healthy habits, staying active and building lasting friendships through the Healthy Kids Club at Kids Can Do Pediatric Therapy Center.
The program, made possible through support from donors to the Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation, was designed to help children develop healthy lifestyle habits in an environment that combined education, recreation and social interaction.
According to information provided by the foundation, participants took part in activities focused on nutrition, physical fitness and overall wellness. Children learned about healthy eating, sampled new foods and explored ways to make positive choices that support long-term health.
Organizers said the program also encouraged children to spend more time engaged in physical activity while reducing screen time during the summer months. Through games, outdoor activities and group experiences, participants were given opportunities to stay active while having fun with their peers.
While promoting physical wellness was a primary goal, program leaders said Healthy Kids Club also focused heavily on social and emotional development.
Children were encouraged to interact with one another through structured activities that helped strengthen communication skills, build confidence and foster friendships. Organizers noted that many participants developed meaningful connections while learning the value of teamwork, cooperation and mutual support.
The program’s supportive environment allowed children to practice healthy behaviors while gaining confidence through positive experiences and interactions with both staff and fellow participants.
Foundation officials said Healthy Kids Club reflects the organization’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of children and families throughout the region.
The Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation partners with community organizations such as Kids Can Do Pediatric Therapy Center to support programs that provide educational opportunities, promote healthy lifestyles and create positive experiences for young people.
Officials said donor contributions play a critical role in making programs like Healthy Kids Club possible. Through the generosity of community supporters, the foundation is able to invest in initiatives that help children develop skills and habits that can benefit them throughout their lives.
In addition to teaching practical lessons about nutrition and physical activity, organizers said the program emphasized the importance of healthy relationships and community connections. By combining learning opportunities with fun, interactive experiences, Healthy Kids Club sought to create an environment where children could thrive physically, socially and emotionally.
Foundation leaders said programs that encourage healthy living at an early age can have a lasting impact, helping children build a strong foundation for future success while strengthening the overall health of the community.
The foundation expressed appreciation to its donors for supporting efforts that provide local children with opportunities to learn, grow and develop healthy habits during the summer months.
