Ball State, IPR earn media awards
The Public Media Journalists Association has recognized Indiana Public Radio for local journalism and student reporting. Ball State University was also honored at the 2026 NATAS Central Great Lakes Regional Emmy Awards.
The station, a service of Ball State University, took second for its newscast in the Public Media Journalists Association’s annual awards. Student Daniel Huber also picked up a second-place honor for student spot news for his reporting on the funeral of Blake Reynolds of Delaware County Sheriff’s Department.
“These awards reflect the essential role Ball State Public Media plays in serving our region with trusted local journalism while preparing the next generation of reporters,” said Angie Grimes, interim general manager and director of audience development for Ball State Public Media, in a news release.
Student Nate Locker earned a Regional Emmy Award for his sports story “Every Step — The Annika Klauss Story.”
Plant certified
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded an ENERGY STAR plant certification to Ardagh Glass Packaging – North America’s glassmaking facility in Madera, California.
The facility has earned the certification for 11 consecutive years. The facility performs in the top 25% of similar facilities for energy efficiency.
“Earning ENERGY STAR certification for the 11th time underscores our long-standing commitment to energy efficiency and sustainable manufacturing,” said Brian Brandstatter, president and CEO for AGP-North America, in a news release. “Our Madera team continues to drive meaningful improvements that reduce energy use, optimise operations and deliver high-quality, endlessly recyclable glass packaging to our customers.”
Ardagh operates glass manufacturing facilities in Dunkirk and Winchester.
Trustees appointed
Indiana Gov. Mike Braun recently appointed three new members to the Indiana University Board of Trustees.
Joining the board will be former CareerBuilder CEO Matt Ferguson, Henke Development Group founder and president Steve Henke and Pacers Sports & Entertainment CEO Mel Raines. All three graduated from IU.
“These new trustees are each accomplished leaders with a proven record leading large, complex organizations,” IU president Pamela Whitten said in a news release. “Their perspective and executive experience will be invaluable in helping IU build on its momentum and seize new opportunities for our students and the state.”
The new trustees will be sworn in on Aug. 14.
New president
AgVocacy Coalitions announced that it has appointed Cary Aubrey as its new president.
Aubrey most recently served as the policy advisor on bioenergy and biofuels for Indiana State Department of Agriculture. He has also had leadership roles with the Lugar Center for Renewable Energy, Drive Clean Indiana and the Indiana Biomass Working Group.
“We are thrilled to welcome Cary as President,” said Sarah Beth Aubrey, founder of AgVocacy and Cary’s wife, in a news release. “His depth of experience is unmatched, and his leadership will be instrumental as we continue growing both the Indiana Rural Land Use Council and AgVocacy Coalitions’ role in shaping Indiana’s agriculture and energy future.”
Officer promoted
McDonald’s USA has selected Bryan Brown as its new chief development officer.
Brown has spent the last 10-plus years at Raising Cane’s. He will step into his new role on July 14.
“Bryan will play an important role ensuring that our restaurant development efforts support the evolving needs of customers, crew, and Owner/Operators,” said McDonald’s U.S. chief operating officer Skye Anderson in a news release. “His experience balancing growth, modernization, and operational excellence will be invaluable as we continue building the future of our restaurants together.
Set to split
Comcast announced last week that it plans to separate into two companies — Comcast and NBC Universal.
Comcast will focus on its residential and business customers through its broadband, wireless and entertainment platforms. NBCUniversal will encompass theme parks, film and television studios, the NBC and Telemundo networks, Peacock and Bravo.
““This is a very exciting day for our company,” said Comcast chairman and co-CEO Brian L. Roberts in a news release. “The transaction we are announcing will unlock a more entrepreneurial management approach and open up a multitude of new opportunities for each business. I very much look forward to helping guide our collective growth for this next chapter.”
