There is so much work to be done within our society. Our youth are crying out for help, guidance, and alternative opportunities. Too often, young people miss out on life-changing opportunities because we, as elders, do not always recognise their needs or reach out to support them.
Every day, we lose young men to violence, and with them, pieces of our communities and our future (“Two men dead, three injured in separate shootings in Steenberg precinct”). Our young women also need encouragement to recognise their worth, build their confidence, and believe that they can achieve great things – whether it is becoming the next Miss South Africa or taking part in self-esteem and personal development programmes.
Our love for our children is shown in many ways, but it is our responsibility to encourage and uplift them. We need to remind our talented young people that there is hope, there are opportunities, and their futures matter.
On Sunday, August 8, at 1.30pm, the Miss and Mr Platinum 2026 event will take place at the Retreat Hotel Lounge, Retreat Road, Retreat.
Hosted by Derrick Davids Stellenboom and me, the event aims to celebrate and empower young people through confidence-building and community involvement.
The competition categories include:
All entrants stand a chance to become winners and serve as ambassadors for future community projects.
Young people from across Cape Town, including Parkwood, Hanover Park, Ottery, Lavender Hill, Mitchells Plain and Philippi, are encouraged to take part.
There is no closing date, so interested participants are encouraged to register early and secure their place at this exciting event celebrating youth, talent and possibility.
