Bethel businesses have been front and center on recent episodes of the “Maine Famous” podcast.
A Jan. 8 episode featured Anne Carter and her son-in-law, Jesse Hill, of Carter’s Cross-Country Ski Shop and Ski Center. They were interviewed by hosts April Shaw-Beaudoin and Vanessa Santarelli.
The four discussed how the business has evolved, Carter’s new pavilion and pizza oven, and a planned sauna at the cross-country center along the Androscoggin River on Intervale Road in Bethel.
They also talked about Bethel as a year-round destination and gave shout-outs to local businesses Gemini Cafe and The Philbrook Place.
Another episode released Dec. 25 featured an interview with A Longer Table Homestead owner Meryl Kelly at Modern Barn in Bethel, where she spoke with the hosts about her evolving business, from farm advocate and connector to caterer.
Kelly discussed future plans for her Skillings Road market and farm-to-table dinner business, as well as collaborations with farmers central to her work.
In a Sept. 19 episode of the podcast, The Elizabeth owner Michael Boland spoke with Shaw-Beaudoin and Jena Young, offering advice to other Maine restaurateurs. Boland owns several restaurants, most in Bar Harbor and on Mount Desert Island. He talked about his Bethel business, The Elizabeth, an 1895 Victorian bed-and-breakfast on Main Street in Bethel, toward the end of the podcast while discussing his love of old buildings.
Other podcasts feature Saddleback Ski Resort and Sarge’s Sports Pub, both in Rangeley.
Shaw-Beaudoin, a marketing and branding specialist who describes herself as an introvert, began producing Maine small business podcasts on the coast titled “Camden Famous” and “Down East Famous.”
She recently expanded the business to include western Maine and rebranded it as “Maine Famous.” She said she hopes to expand statewide and eventually to other states as well.
The podcast is available on their website and on Spotify, YouTube and Apple.
