Though she doesn’t have a professional background in social-media management, this Topekan has repeatedly put her social-media and content-creation skills to the test.
In the latest episode of The Topeka Capital-Journal’s “It’s Your Business” podcast, the show’s host sits down with Alison Beebe, manager of the local Facebook group “Topcityflavorista Local Eats & Events!”
Not only does Beebe manage that page — after taking it over for Visit Topeka in 2019 — but she also recently stood up her own business, which aims to support and promote area small businesses.
And she does that all while working full time as a psychiatric nurse at Topeka’s VA Medical Center.
“This is my running joke — and I don’t mean to offend anyone,” Beebe said. “I don’t have children or a husband, so I think that frees up some time. I’m busy all the time, but I think that’s part of the reason why I can do all of it.”
Beebe, who hails from Niagara Falls, New York, talks about what brought her to Topeka, how she balances work and play, and why she became such a strong supporter of small business in the latest episode of the “It’s Your Business” podcast, hosted by Capital-Journal reporter India Yarborough.

New episodes of “It’s Your Business” — which covers a variety of topics related to Topeka’s business community — are released every other Wednesday. The show’s next episode comes out Aug. 11.
