On May 12, Precious Onyeka Udemez, a gadgets dealer, committed to refunding Blessing Iniobong, a Lagos resident, by the end of May after collecting N300,000 from her to swap her phone in October 2025 without doing so.
“We still talked today. I’ve always been replying her. I told her earlier I had been sick for a while and wasn’t active. I’ll refund before or by the month’s end,” he told FIJ on May 12.
As of Thursday, Omogbolahan Haruna, Iniobong’s friend, told FIJ that the gadgets dealer had not returned the money.
When FIJ contacted Udemez on Tuesday, he confirmed this. “I haven’t because business has been slow. I haven’t made sales yet, as I’ve explained to her; I do want to refund, but things have been slow on my end. I’ll refund her; I’m working on it,” he said.

Haruna narrated to FIJ on May 11 what had happened.
“They agreed on the kind of phone (iPhone 14 Pro Max). Before that, they had not seen each other for so long, but they had been talking online on Snap and Instagram,” Haruna said.
“On October 24, 2025, she sent him N300,000 for the payment and promised to balance the N50,000 whenever they bring the phone or when she receives it. Since then, the guy has refused to either bring the phone or refund the money.”
“We have been to his place several times, but we were unable to meet up with him. He was always giving excuses. The last time we went there, they said he had left the area. They said that he had moved out of his apartment for a while,” he said.
“We tried every other alternative to reach out to him. He has not been responding. At one point in time, he was promising to make a refund. But all those promises and the dates, there was nothing, no outcome.”
Haruna told FIJ that Udemez had made several promises to refund his friend. On May 13, he shared screenshots of Udemez’s chats with Iniobong, where the phone dealer promised to refund her in April. He didn’t fulfil the promise.
