ANDISWA KHUZWAYO’S ABILITY TO BALANCE SPORT AND ACADEMICS SHOWCASES HER RESILIENCE AND FOCUS FOR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
May 12, 2026
Andiswa Khuzwayo (22) is not only making disciplined moves in karate, but she is also making powerful strides in academics. Her dedication both on the mat and in the classroom reflects her determination to succeed in every aspect of life. She graduated with her Diploma in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in Business Analysis at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Autumn Graduation Ceremony held at the Indumiso Campus, Pietermaritzburg on Monday, 11 May 2026.
Andiswa’s greatest inspiration is her mother, Zandile Khuzwayo, whose life story continues to motivate her every day. Her mother started her career as a security guard and later she became a registered nurse. Her mother’s resilience taught her the value of hard work and persistence.
“My mother is everything and for inspiration I look up to her. Seeing her journey inspires me every day. I want to be just like her and even more, she is my role model. She had it tough it was never easy, but she did it,’’ she explained.
Hailing from Hlokozi reflecting on her remarkable millstone Andiswa said this moment means that she is capable, and she further emphasised that this is just the beginning.
“This moment is very important in my life. It made me want more, have faith in myself and dream even bigger than before. Walking on that stage was the best moment in my life,’’ she described.
In 2023 she joined the DUT Karate not only as a sport but as a path to physical and mental fitness. Her passion for karate was inspired by a desire to become stronger, more disciplined, and capable of defending herself. Since joining the club, she has grown both on and off the mat, proudly participating in one of the country’s biggest student sporting events, the University Sport South Africa (USSA) tournament.
Today, she dreams of continuing her studies and becoming a PhD candidate one day, a goal she believes is achievable through dedication and faith in herself. Her ability to balance sport, academics, and professional growth as an IT intern showcases her resilience and focus for personal development.
