STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The first stage of the Business 51 reconstruction project begins today in Stevens Point.
Starting Wednesday, Division Street will be closed from just south of Fourth Street to Briggs Street near the Portage County YMCA. The detours will at times involve neighborhood streets that aren’t used to seeing significant traffic, and that means drivers need to be extra careful.
Mayor Mike Wiza told WSAU drivers should watch for kids playing and be aware of stop signs and speed limits in these areas.
“Pay attention, slow down, nothing is that important,” Wiza said.
The official detour will use North Point Drive, Michigan Avenue and Clark and Main streets. The first phase is expected to be complete next month.
Stage two will involve closing the intersection of Fourth and Division for the construction of a roundabout.
