Professor honored
Ball State University professor Adam Kuban was honored as the Teacher of the Year during the Scripps Howard Journalism Awards.
Kuban received the Charles E. Scripps Award for Journalism Teacher of the Year, a national award recognizing a journalism educator. The winners were selected from more than 600 entries.
“Dr. Kuban’s work reflects the best of what we want for students in CCIM: rigorous teaching, meaningful mentorship, and opportunities to apply what they are learning in ways that serve communities,” said Dr. Kirsten McCauliff, dean of the College of Communication, Information and Media, in a news release. “This national recognition is a testament to his commitment to students and to the role journalism education plays in preparing thoughtful, ethical, and engaged professionals.”
Kuban has taught at BSU since 2011.
Expanding sites
Eli Lilly announced last week that it plans to invest $4.5 billion in two of its Lebanon locations.
The Indianapolis-based pharmaceuticals company is expanding its capacity in anticipation of increased demand for its medicines. It will include new process designs and technologies in Lebanon, which is Lilly’s manufacturing hub in the U.S.
“Lilly’s legacy of firsts in Indiana continues today — and the best measure of that legacy is what we do next,” said David A. Ricks, Lilly chair and CEO, in a news release. “From genetic medicines that could one day prevent disease at its source, to Foundayo, a pill making weight loss treatment accessible to millions, we are not just discovering the medicines of the future — we are building the world’s most advanced plants to make them. When our Lebanon API site opens in 2027, it will be the largest API production site in U.S. history, a commitment we chose to build here, at home.”
Education offered
The Goldman Sachs Small Business Education Program will be offered to Indiana entrepreneurs through a partnership with Ivy Tech Community College.
The free program will offer participants education regarding negotiation, marketing and employee management. It will also provide tools and professional support to develop a five-year growth plan.
Classes, which will begin in September, will be available in person and online.

Nominate for awards
Nominations are open for the Governor’s 2026 Century and Half Century Business Awards.
The honors recognize businesses that have been in operation for at least 100 or 50 years and have demonstrated a commitment to serving their community. Winners will be honored at a ceremony at the Indiana Statehouse.
“Indiana’s legacy businesses are a testament to the commitment, work ethic and resilience of Hoosiers,” said Indiana Gov. Mike Braun in a news release. “From small and medium-sized businesses to large corporations, Indiana companies operating for more than 50 or 100 years have made a profound impact on our economy and our people. I look forward to celebrating the tremendous achievements of these businesses and continuing to provide a pro-growth business environment that supports their operations for the next 50 or 100 years.”
To nominate a business, visit iedc.in.gov. The deadline is Saturday, May 30.
