When Nintendo’s NES became available to U.S. buyers in late 1985, kids couldn’t get enough. From that moment on, it was all about new tech.
Toys with microchips moved to the top of Christmas lists in 1986. Talking stuffed animal Teddy Ruxpin was quite popular, and so was Laser Tag.
Popular electronic gadgets included VCRs, camcorders and CD players. One salesman said CDs were selling “hot as a pistol.”
