Long-time Long Island Business News reporter David Winzelberg will be one of three Lifetime Achievement Award recipients at this year’s Fair Media Council Folio Awards next month.
Winzelberg will join Sam Champion, America’s weather anchor at Good Morning America and WABC-TV Eyewitness News and Jennifer McLogan, reporter at CBS News New York in receiving the coveted recognition at the 45th Annual Folio Awards Luncheon on Thursday, June 11 at the Garden City Hotel.
The Lifetime Achievement Award winners will be honored for “careers defined by excellence, integrity, and an enduring commitment to public service,” according to a Fair Media Council statement.
“The Folio Awards represent the gold standard for the modern media landscape, with a judging process that reflects what the news consumer — the ultimate judge — wants and needs from news and media today,” Jaci Clement, CEO and executive director of the Fair Media Council (FMC), said in the statement. “This year’s Lifetime Achievement honorees represent the very best of what journalism can be — tireless, truthful, and profoundly connected to audiences and communities. We are proud to celebrate their achievements and legacies.”
Winzelberg, one of Long Island’s most respected business journalists, has forged a career dedicated to illuminating the economic forces, real estate trends, and entrepreneurial stories that shape the region, according to FMC. He has spent two decades chronicling Long Island for LIBN and has also contributed to The New York Times, Forbes, CNBC, The Atlantic, and WLIW21, among other outlets.
FMC describes Winzelberg, who has won multiple Folio Awards, as “a sharp, deeply sourced reporter with an uncommon ability to contextualize complex business and commercial real estate news for a broad readership,” earning a reputation as “the go-to voice for Long Island’s business community.”
“The FMC Lifetime Achievement Award is a testament to David’s dedication on keeping the Long Island business community informed [and entertained] when it comes to his sharp and witty reporting skills,” said LIBN Editor Regina Jankowski. “We commend him for his continued impact, and we congratulate him on this milestone achievement.”

With a broadcasting career spanning decades, Champion is one of the most recognized and trusted weather anchors in American television. He joined WABC-TV’s Eyewitness News in 1988 and went on to become the most-watched weatherman in the New York tri-state area, anchoring the flagship 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts. In 2006, he moved to ABC’s Good Morning America as weather anchor and editor, where he built and led ABC News’ Weather, Climate and Environment Unit, overseeing coverage across all ABC platforms. Champion’s coverage of Hurricane Sandy Coverage earned him a Peabody Award, and he has received four Emmy Awards over the course of his career. After a stint as managing editor of The Weather Channel — where he created the acclaimed four-hour morning program AMHQ — Champion returned to WABC-TV in 2019, where he continues to anchor Eyewitness News This Morning.

McLogan, a multi-Emmy Award–winning journalist, began her broadcasting career in Boston in radio before transitioning to television at WBZ-TV. She joined WCBS-TV in New York in 1982, served as a Northeast correspondent for NBC Nightly News, The Today Show, and NBC Sportsworld, and reported from WBBM-TV in Chicago before returning to CBS New York in 1993 to anchor the station’s Long Island bureau. McLogan’s reporting has earned national and local Emmys, Associated Press Awards, and recognition from American Women in Radio and Television, as well as a multitude of Folio Awards from the Fair Media Council. In 2024, she was inducted into the Long Island Journalism Hall of Fame.
The Folio Awards recognize outstanding journalism and media work across news, digital, social and digital platforms. Sponsorships, magazine advertising, and tickets are available at www.fairmediacouncil.org/folio-awards/event.
