After decades on terrestrial radio, two familiar female voices are making fresh moves in podcasting, while another takes her podcast to the radio. Hubbard Radio’s Lori Barghini and Julia Cobbs are reuniting with a new twice-weekly show, while Detroit business leader Denise Ilitch expands her podcast to radio, blending digital reach with broadcast distribution.
Barghini and Cobbs, formerly of Hubbard Radio’s “My Talk 107.1” KTMY Minneapolis, ended their “Lori & Julie” program in June 2021 after being part of the station’s lineup for more than two decades. The hosts are now reuniting for a new twice-a-week podcast, working with Hubbard’s Gamut Podcast Network.
“After 22 years on the radio, Lori and I are back at the mic and this time as a podcast. We’ve missed the laughs, the connections, and can’t wait to chat,” Cobbs said in the announcement.
Their pop culture and celebrity gossip-focused radio show was one of the top-rated talk shows in afternoon drive in the Twin Cities. The new “Lori & Julia Still Loud” podcast will release episodes Wednesday and Friday beginning Oct. 1.
“We still have a lot to say,” said Barghini. “Julia & I are beyond excited to be ‘podcast ponies’. Radio gave us our voice but podcasting gives us a way to ‘re-wire’ in the laughing, sharing and entertaining the world.”
Hubbard Radio CEO Ginny Hubbard jokes retirement “didn’t work” for Barghini and Cobbs, and the podcast will reintroduce them to the market in a different listening format. “They defined ‘talk radio for women’ in the Twin Cities and will bring their totally unique, authentic and often downright hilarious perspective of pop news and culture and human relationships to the podcast universe,” Hubbard says.
Meanwhile, in Detroit, community and business leader Denise Ilitch will be launching a new season of her four-year-old podcast with Cumulus Media news-talk WJR Detroit (760). The move will also see “The Denise Ilitch Show” add distribution on the radio. It will air each Saturday at 5pm on WJR.
“I’m thrilled about the partnership with WJR and Cumulus to bring the positive message of The Denise Ilitch Show to a wider audience,” Ilitch said in the announcement. “All of us agree that the stories we explore on this show have the potential to inspire leadership in big and small ways, locally and nationally.”
The show’s first radio guest, in its 50th episode, will be television personality Jill Martin, frequently seen on NBC’s “Today” Show. A fashion expert and breast cancer survivor, Martin will share with Ilitch how she overcame adversity to continue her business and TV career.
