Pikes Peak area residents can immerse themselves in the world of herbalism and holistic medicine, free of charge, at the 22nd annual Pikes Peak Herb Fest at Westside Community Center on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
More than 40 local growers, herbalists and other holistic professionals will be on hand for the indoor/outdoor event, which explores natural approaches to healthcare instead of treating symptoms with pills, according to Sarah Grant of the Essential Wellness Society, which organizes the festival.
“People will have the opportunity to learn about natural remedies and explore their options for healthier ways of living,” said Grant, a master herbalist. “Anyone who’s interested in herbal remedies, learning more about herbalism, sustainability or gardening will enjoy Pikes Peak Herb Fest.”
Educational presentations and breakout sessions will take place during the event, as will the popular “seed swap” from 1-3 p.m. Local gardeners and farmers share, donate or exchange a wide variety of seeds for herbs, vegetables and flowers.
“It’s one of the more popular events of the fest,” Grant said. “The seed swap brings in a lot of traffic.”
The event will feature live music, and the Crepes-N-Go food truck will be on hand for anyone craving something savory or sweet.
A portion of this year’s proceeds will be donated to the InterWorld Institute, a Colorado Springs-based nonprofit that focuses on holistic wellness, mentorship and education.
Anyone interested in exploring ways to live healthier should stop by Pikes Peak Herb Fest on Saturday, Grant said.
“There’s something for everyone,” Grant said. “Whether you’re a beginner who has never gardened before, or if you’ve been gardening for years. There’s always something to learn, and this is a great community to learn from.”
