BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on young people to align their personal ambitions with the broader goals of national development, stressing their vital role in shaping the country’s future.
In a reply letter to representatives of recipients of the China Youth May Fourth Medal and the New Era Youth Pioneer, Xi extended greetings to youth across China ahead of Youth Day, which falls on Monday.
Xi, who also serves as general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, praised the awardees for their contributions in fields such as scientific innovation, rural revitalisation, social services and border defence. He said these young individuals embody confidence, self-reliance and a strong sense of responsibility in the new era.
Highlighting that 2026 marks the launch of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, Xi described the period as a critical opportunity for youth to contribute to national progress. He urged them to remain dedicated to their roles, pursue excellence and channel their energy into advancing the country’s development journey.
According to Chinese state media outlets such as Xinhua News Agency and People’s Daily, the message reflects Beijing’s continued emphasis on youth participation in key national strategies, including innovation-driven growth, rural development and social governance.
The honoured awards recognise young role models who demonstrate strong moral character, political commitment and tangible contributions to society. In their recent correspondence with the president, past recipients shared their grassroots experiences and reaffirmed their dedication to supporting China’s long-term development goals.
Chinese analysts note that Xi’s message underscores the strategic importance Beijing places on mobilising youth talent as the country enters a new phase of economic and social planning, with a focus on high-quality development and national rejuvenation.
